Natural Resources
The economy and culture of Central Oregon has long been built upon the natural resource base of the region. COIC’s natural resource and the environment services are focused on enhancing effectiveness and efficiencies at a regional scale and working towards long-term, sustainable solutions.
The purpose of COIC’s natural resource and the environment program is to enhance the capacity of regional institutions to successfully manage and conserve natural resources and environmental amenities to maintain environmental services and protect regional quality of life while providing sustainable economic opportunities.
The core functions of COIC’s Natural Resources and the Environment services are:
- To provide intergovernmental coordination and regional planning for natural resources and environmental issues involving multiple local governments in Central Oregon;
- To provide credible and neutral facilitation, collaboration, monitoring, and program assessment services to help solve complex issues involving multiple stakeholders;
- To provide natural resource and environmental strategic planning services;
- To provide technical assistance services related to natural resources and environmental issues, including (but not limited to) natural resource management expertise, GIS, natural resource grant program administration, restoration project development, grant writing, public education and outreach/marketing, databases and information clearinghouses, and research and report-writing; and
- To provide business development services to businesses that are consistent with natural resource and the environment program objectives.
