Jurisdiction

COIC serves Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties and the cities of Bend, Culver, Madras, Metolius, Prineville, Redmond and Sisters. The15-member board is made up of elected officials appointed by each of the member governments and appointed representatives of key economic sectors – business and industry, tourism and recreation, agribusiness and agriculture, timber and wood products, and the unemployed/underemployed. The respective county court or commission makes each appointment.

COIC began serving the residents and communities of Central Oregon in 1972 as a Council of Governments organized under ORS 190 by Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties and Bend, Culver, Madras, Metolius, Prineville, Redmond and Sisters. The first office was in a basement in Bend.

Today, COIC has offices in Bend, La Pine, Madras, Prineville, Redmond, Klamath Falls and Lakeview and employs more than 60 people. From offering employment and training services then to alternative high school education, business loans, and community and economic development, COIC continues to evolve to meet the needs of Central Oregon.
